Overview

Argo was created with the mission to contribute to the development of the electricity sector, respecting the interests of all those involved, and acting in an ethical, efficient, and committed manner. Our vision is to be a company recognized for its operational excellence, with focus on sustainable growth to maximize the investments. This way, sustainability is a very important pillar, which is why we work with a basis on safety and discipline to be an increasingly sustainable company, contributing to the preservation of the environment

Our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) actions and plans permeate the themes below:

Environmental Ambiental

We believe that environmental management is the fundamental basis for controlling, monitoring, or mitigating the economic, environmental, and social impacts of our operations. Based on the environmental management, we guarantee legal compliance with all social and environmental aspects, and we may strategically plan continuity or change of course for new businesses.

In Brazil, the electricity transmission sector is highly regulated and only presents relevant social and environmental impacts during the construction stage. The operating stage of transmission lines only has reduced social and environmental impacts, which are controlled through environmental programs.

Environmental Management Program Programa de Gestão Ambiental

ARGO's environmental management is carried out through the Environmental Management Programs (EMP) of each of the undertakings. The general purpose of the EMPs is to ensure that the undertakings have efficient procedures and mechanisms to guarantee the execution and control of the actions planned in the various social and environmental programs, and the adequate conduction of the operational process.

Biodiversity Biodiversidade

Always attentive to the reduction and mitigation of impacts on biodiversity in the locations where it operates, ARGO carries out several environmental monitoring and control programs during the operation stage, including monitoring of Avifauna. The areas of these projects are located in conservation units (public or private) that have ecological relevance and need recovery/reforestation.

Energy Consumption Consumo de Energia

With the commitment of prioritizing transmission efficiency, and quality, ARGO instituted the best maintenance and operation practices in order to avoid transmission factor losses. This is the great contribution of the transmission to the energy management: avoid energy losses and ensure the efficiency and sustainability of the National Interconnected System (SIN).

Floresta
Forest Compensation Compensação Florestal

Forest replacement basically consists of planting native forest species in pre-selected locations to compensate for locations that were affected by the construction of transmission lines/substations. Its purpose is to protect the affected local ecosystems, regarding erosion control and sediment transport, and the creation of attractive environments for local fauna, based on the integration with the remaining forest fragments. The Forest Replacement Project is also one of the environmental constraints of the environmental licensing process, as well as of the applicable legislation.

Parque Nacional de Sete Cidades (Sete Cidades National Park) - in 2021, the implementation of the Forest Replacement project was completed in the Sete Cidades National Park Integral Conservation Unit, with the planting of more than 5 hectares of native species, which add up to more than 4 thousand seedlings, and more than 10,000 seeds planted, which will be monitored, at least, until 2024.

Unimontes - the Forest Replacement project in Janaúba (State of Minas Gerais) had its implementation commenced in 2021, in an area provided by the Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros (State University of Montes Claros) - UNIMONTES, equivalent to the necessary area of 0.72 hectares.

Argo Energia's Occupational Health and Safety Policy is focused on achieving excellence in safety and health, with the purpose of continuously improving the effectiveness of the management system, disseminating the culture of zero accidents and/or incidents.

The Health and Safety Management System covers 100% of the Company's workers, including third parties. All are monitored through the SSO inspections, responsible for generating the Safety Adherence Index (IAS), used to monitor adherence to the safety of the work by its own workers and third parties.

Community

The performance in electrical transmission implies generating significant negative impacts during the construction phase of the undertakings, which are mitigated or compensated through social and environmental programs.

The Social Communication Program (PCS) is developed in all Argo assets to emphasize a qualified and transparent communication process, which prioritizes the constant dialogue with the public involved, and the continuity of the management of expectations in relation to the operation stage of LT and Substations. In addition to taking qualified information to the stakeholders regarding the harmonious coexistence with the undertaking, care, and safety standards and data on environmental projects, the PCS includes the ombudsman's office system during the period of operation for all undertakings.

Governance Governança

Our Corporate Governance model is structured and formalized in the Articles of Incorporation, which determines that Argo be managed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Board. In order to better carry out its duties, the Board of Directors has the support of the following technical committees: Advisory Committee and Finances and Investments Committee, which may make recommendations to the Board of Directors, but without binding effect.

Ethics and Integrity

Ethics is a base word for all actions that permeate the Argo business. With its Code of Ethics and Conduct, the company reaffirms on a daily basis its commitment to the business ethics and transparency, ensuring ethical conduct in the development of its activities. Through the Purchasing Policy, we reaffirm our commitment to ethics also in terms of choosing our suppliers. The company carries out a prior assessment of suppliers and considers the contracting amounts involved, background checks, and criminal, commercial, and financial records.

Risk Management

Argo Energia performs the maintenance of the Governance Systems to map risks which may affect the present and the future of the company, concerned about the internal and external impacts to the business. For this reason, it adopts the Risk Management Program, with its Corporate Risk and Internal Control Policy as the main directive.

The risk and opportunity management is responsibility of the Top Management, which is responsible for ensuring and protecting the business, with the goal of prevention and safety in all its environments. This obligation, which involves the Top Management, is also valid for the internal technical staff, including the administrative and operational areas, for the due compliance with the relevant legislations, contractual terms and applicable rules.

The Risk Management and Internal Control model of Argo Energia has as assumption the multilevel development, from the Top Management’s outlook for potential risks which may affect the compliance with the Strategic Objectives, to the compliance with the tactical objectives of each Business Center. The idea is to empower the centers so they can have an appropriation of risk management, according to their context. These directives align with the three lines of defense model, proposed by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and by the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC).

From time to time, the Risk and Internal Control matrix goes through a review and validation by the leadership and technical group, after a process of analysis of quantitative impacts of events and incidents in the business and the probability of its occurrence. Among the aspects considered are the non-financial, legal, reputation, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts.

Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD)

In 2021, Argo adjusted to Law No. 13709/18 – Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD). For such, Argo prepared the company's data protection policy, review of the employment agreements to include a section on the LGPD, and structuring of the Incident Response Action Plan, review of the information security standards, and general training for all Argo managers. An LGPD model was also prepared for agreements with suppliers who handle employees' personal data (such as healthcare plans and medical exams).
